Jail Ministry
Purpose:
The purpose of the jail ministry is to do exactly what Jesus has called the church to do, “I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:36
Our God is a god who calls us to go straight to the messiness of people’s lives. We cannot love people from a distance. The jail ministry has a team of women and men from our church who visit the Humphreys County Jail weekly when the jail administer allows (due to overcrowding). They disciple, mentor, and pray with them. We also host a support group; please see the Life Recovery page on this site for more information.
Two ways of serving:
Going- This has been put on hold for the foreseeable future. We connect through those incarcerated throughout the USA digitally in these days. If you would like to be a part of the correspondence team, please reach out to Vernon Costello.
Baking- Cookies are delivered to inmates and staff on February 14th along with drink, a tract, and a handmade card made by the children of the church. One little boy wrote in his valentine: “Make good choices, man.” No doubt that statement not only impacted the inmate who received it, but the little boy who wrote it, becoming a two-fold ministry! To participate, watch for announcements in the month of January.
