Jail Ministry
Purpose:
The purpose of the jail ministry is to do exactly what Jesus has called the church to do, “I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:36
Our God is a god who calls us to go straight to the messiness of people’s lives. We cannot love people from a distance. The jail ministry has a team of women and men from our church who visit the Humphreys County Jail weekly. They disciple, mentor, and pray with them. When the women and men are released from jail, the recovery ministry team comes alongside them as life coaches. We also host a support group; please see the Celebrate Recovery page on this site for more information.
Four ways of serving:
Going- See the schedule below and contact Pastor Janice if you feel called to serve.
Praying- An email is sent out weekly of particular needs of the work and specific mean and women to whom we’re ministering. Please contact Pastor Janice if you would like to receive weekly updates.
Baking- Cookies are delivered to inmates and staff on February 14th along with drink, a tract, and a handmade card made by the children of the church. One little boy wrote in his valentine: “Make good choices, man.” No doubt that statement not only impacted the inmate who received it, but the little boy who wrote it, becoming a two-fold ministry! To participate, watch for announcements in the month of January!
Donating-Paperback books for the jail library are always appreciated.
Schedule of Jail Services:
The women’ team visits the jail every Tuesday at 6:30pm.
The men’s team visits the jail every Thursday at 7pm.
